TASN Represents Texas on Capitol Hill

Advocating for Texas school nutrition
TASN joined school nutrition leaders from across the country to elevate the needs of school meal programs and bring the Texas perspective to Capitol Hill.

During the conference, TASN members joined fellow SNA advocates in supporting SNA’s 2026 policy priorities. Key issues included increasing investment in school meal programs, supporting scratch cooking, protecting and expanding student access to healthy meals, and ensuring future nutrition standards are practical and achievable for schools.

From TASN Leadership
“School nutrition professionals understand firsthand how federal policy decisions affect districts’ ability to serve students each day,” said TASN Public Policy & Legislative Chair Darin Crawford. “We appreciated the opportunity to bring the Texas perspective to Capitol Hill and advocate for practical support that helps schools continue offering healthy, nutritious meals.”
Conference Highlights

SNA also used the conference to brief Congress on the financial and staffing challenges districts continue to face. As school nutrition teams work to serve more fresh, whole and local foods, they are also navigating rising food, labor and equipment costs, along with ongoing operational pressures. These conversations underscored the real-world challenges that school nutrition professionals face every day in serving students well.

Continuing the conversation
TASN is proud to represent Texas in these important conversations and remains committed to advocating for the resources and support school nutrition professionals need to serve students every day.
