JOB TITLE: Specialist FANS Compliance and Technology WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director PAY GRADE: $48,200-$58,100
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Responsible for training, implementation, and support of the current food service hardware and software systems, which encompasses point of sale, federal meal application processing, Novell system and inventory. Responsible for the development and maintenance of food service operational policy and procedure manuals. Responsible for ensuring that school facilities are in compliance with all local, state, and federal policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor of Science Food and Nutrition or Restaurant, Hotel, and Institutional Management or Equivalent years experience in a food service establishment; knowledge of foodservice hardware and software computer applications
Texas Association for School Nutrition Level V certifiable
Completion of a credited sanitation course and maintain certification
Driving record that is insurable by Plano ISD’s insurance carrier
30 hours of Professional Development annually
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Extensive knowledge of current hardware and software applications
Knowledge of IBM compatible computer systems utilizing software for word
processing, spreadsheets, electronic mail, phone system and other food service
software applications
Competence in adult education classroom techniques, material development and
evaluation
Demonstrate problem solving/investigative skills to research and respond to inquires
Self-motivated, self-starter and self-directed
Strong organizational skills
Ability to communicate well, both verbally and written
Willingness to execute written employment contract with Plano ISD
Experience:
Novell networks, computers, printers, and scanners preferred
Previous experience as a trainer
Knowledge of website design
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Responsible for administration of current food service regulations, hardware and software application system to ensure all facilities are in compliance with local, state, and federal policies and procedures
Coordinate and communicate the installation of all food service hardware and software applications at all campus sites and FANS central administration
Coordinate and oversee all the duties and responsibilities of the federal meal application processing system which includes:
Review the data entry/scanning of applications
Ensure applications are correct and in federal and state compliance
Oversee and assist temporary staff in the meal application approval and data entry process
Ensure accurate information is transferred to and from student information system
Prepare and review reports:
File monthly claims
Prepare monthly claims comparison reports
Prepare monthly report for % of students on the federal program
Review edit checks
Review verification process
Ensure direct certification is processed according to federal and state
guidelines
Develop and implement training materials and procedures for all food service and district hardware, software application and network systems
Develop, implement and update all electronic/Microsoft spreadsheet reports:
profit and loss
cost calculation
expenditure
any other e-forms or manuals developed or required by the department
Provide food service with wiring, hardware, and software technical support at all schools sites and the FANS central administration
Coordinate and implement all food service hardware and software application upgrades at all school sites and FANS central administration, including on-line payment and survey system
Coordinate the integration and facilitate the implementation of the current food service software system with the districts software application system to ensure the systems are used to their maximum efficiency capabilities
Develop and coordinate distribution of monthly FANS newsletter and issue to all administrative departments and food service sites
Coordinate and develop the FANS policy and procedures handbook or web based materials
Assist with developing short and long range marketing plan and promotional program in accordance with the budget set by FANS
Participate in development and implementation of in-service training programs for food
service staff
Responsible for ascertaining network password, internet accessibility and CIMS password
for staff
Responsible for developing and maintaining FANS and campus website
Work with district technology personnel to migrate user programs and data files to new
equipment and /or the network, and test to ensure data integrity is preserved
Interface with vendors and CIMS/TEAMS, to isolate and resolve network problems and
assist in diagnosing communication and route problems
Learn the network management and analysis tools used by the district network engineers
Attend and participate in all meetings as scheduled by the food service director for short
and long range strategic planning purposes
Assist with the planning, designing, and renovation of campus and other district sites
Responsible for protecting the integrity of the network by only loading district
approved software on individual workstations
Communicate with building staff the district acceptable use guidelines
Attend workshops, district staff development sessions, and other continuing education
courses provided by the technology department to keep technical skills updated
Plan and implement training for new Novell Systems users
Follow all rules, regulations, and policies of Plano ISD and follow directives from superiors
Perform other functions that may be assigned by the administration and/or supervisor
EQUIPMENT USED:
Various, computers, printers, copiers, calculators, computer hardware and software
systems, AV equipment, fax, scanner; and audiovisual equipment. Knowledge of operational
techniques for large and small equipment.

Mental Demands:

Physical Demands:
Frequent district wide and/or statewide travel; occasional prolonged and irregular hours.
Frequent standing, sitting, walking, pushing, pulling, stooping, bending, and kneeling.
Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds. Prolonged use of computer and repetitive hand motions.
Environmental Factors:
Moderate exposure to extreme hot and/or cold temperatures; excessive humidity, dampness
or chilling; excessive noise, intermittent; fumes, smoke, or gases; solvents (degreasing agents);
grease and oils; work around machinery with moving parts; work around moving objects; work
with hands in water.
